šŸ™ŒThis week's podcast episodes...

  • Google Bard is set to include an image generator, revealed by Dylan Roussel on X/Twitter.

  • The feature, part of an unreleased changelog dated January 18, enables image creation using simple text prompts.

  • Powered by Google's Imagen models, it aims for high-quality, photorealistic images, useful for enterprises.

  • Similar functionality was introduced in Google Search in October for users enrolled in the Search Generative Experience (SGE).

  • SGE allows image generation from "draw" or "sketch" prompts, with daily limits and a four-image batch output.

  • The system restricts creation of harmful, misleading, explicit content, and images of notable people.

  • Each image includes metadata labeling and invisible watermarking via Googleā€™s SynthID.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman believes that the future of AI depends on a significant energy breakthrough, as current and future AI technologies require massive power.

Current large-language AI models (LLMs) like OpenAIā€™s ChatGPT and Anthropicā€™s Claude use thousands of GPUs, resulting in extremely high power requirements for both training and running these models.

Altman suggests that to sustain the growth of AI, either a revolution in AI training and operation methods is needed, or the creation of more sustainable energy sources than currently available.

Fusion energy, involving the fusing of atoms to release energy, is seen as a potential zero-carbon solution for increasing power availability. However, the challenge lies in making fusion reactors produce more energy than they consume.

Altman personally invested $375 million in Helion, a fusion startup, in 2021. Helion had aimed to have a working fusion reactor prototype by 2024, but the current status of this goal is uncertain. This investment was part of Helion's total $500 million fundraising.

The text describes the process of using the Cocreator feature in Microsoft Paint on Windows 11 to generate AI images:

  1. Update Windows 11: Get the Windows 11 Moment 4 update from September 2023 to access the latest features in Paint.

  2. Update Microsoft Paint: Ensure you have the latest version of Paint by updating all Microsoft Store apps.

  3. Launch Paint: Open Paint from the Start menu or All Apps screen and click the Cocreator button.

  4. Describe the Image: In the Cocreator pane, give a specific and descriptive idea of the image you want.

  5. Choose a Style: Select a style for your image, like Charcoal, Ink Sketch, Watercolor, Oil Painting, Digital Art, Photorealistic, Anime, or Pixel Art.

  6. Create Your Image: Write the description, pick a style, and click Create. Paint will produce three images for you to view and choose from.

  7. Generate New Images: You can make more images by altering the description or style and clicking Create again.

  8. Revise an Image: Edit your chosen image using Paint's tools, like changing colors, shapes, or adding text.

  9. Save the Image: Save your image in formats like PNG, JPG, BMP, GIF, etc., in your preferred folder.

  10. Share the Image via Email: Send the image to others by email through the File menu.

This shows how Windows 11 users can easily create AI-generated images using the updated Microsoft Paint program, choosing from various styles and making edits as needed.

Samsung is announcing new phones this week, and theyā€™re going to be the most AI phones that ever AIā€™ed. Thatā€™s not a guess, although it would be an easy one coming off the heels of ā€œPut a ChatGPT on itā€ CES 2024.

No, Samsung is telling us in the loudest ways possible ā€” including putting it on the Sphere, which is the 2024 equivalent of shouting it from the rooftops. But what exactly does AI on a phone look like? So far, it has amounted to a handful of tech demos.

This weekā€™s Galaxy Unpacked event is an opportunity to show us the potential of AI on a mobile device. And unlike a washing machine with ChatGPT preinstalled, AI could be really useful on our phones.

Some of the best robots of this year's CES were ball-based, but there were plenty of other weird machines with strangling arms and manic, electronic voices.
