The Biden-Harris Administration has unveiled plans to establish the U.S. Artificial Intelligence Safety Institute (USAISI) under the U.S. Department of Commerce and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). USAISI will focus on AI safety and trust, particularly for advanced AI models, in alignment with a recent executive order signed by President Biden. Its key tasks include developing standards for AI model safety, security, and testing, as well as authenticating AI-generated content.

The institute will collaborate with experts from academia, industry, government, and civil society, and coordinate with similar institutes in allied nations, such as the UK's AI Safety Institute. This initiative aims to ensure the responsible and safe development of AI in the United States.

Key points of President Biden's landmark Executive Order on artificial intelligence (AI) include:

  1. New Standards: The order establishes new standards for AI safety and security.

  2. Privacy Protection: It safeguards Americans' privacy when it comes to AI technologies.

  3. Equity and Civil Rights: The order advances equity and civil rights in AI development and use.

  4. Consumer and Worker Protection: It stands up for the interests of consumers and workers in the AI industry.

  5. Innovation and Competition: The order promotes innovation and competition within the AI sector.

  6. Global Leadership: It aims to advance American leadership in AI technology worldwide.

  7. Comprehensive Strategy: The Executive Order is part of the Biden-Harris Administration's broader strategy for responsible AI innovation.

  8. Voluntary Commitments: It builds on previous efforts, including securing voluntary commitments from 15 leading companies to ensure safe, secure, and trustworthy AI development.

LinkedIn is introducing new artificial intelligence (AI) features for personalized content and content creation on its platform. These tools, powered by OpenAI's technologies, will initially be available to Premium users. They can be used to enhance the user's feed, generate insights from linked articles, and improve the job-hunting experience.

The AI tools aim to boost user engagement and keep LinkedIn at the forefront of the evolving social media landscape.

Generative artificial intelligence programs like ChatGPT are expanding their capabilities beyond generating text, with one crucial area being the handling of time series data.

Time series data involves measuring the same variables at different points in time to identify trends, making it valuable for applications like tracking patient medical history and forecasting outcomes.

Traditional methods for dealing with time series data typically require specialized software, but generative AI is now being equipped to handle this type of data in a similar manner to text, images, software coding, and other tasks it excels at.

A recent study conducted by Nate Gruver and colleagues from New York University and Carnegie Mellon demonstrates that OpenAI's GPT-3 program can be trained to predict the next event in a time series, akin to predicting the next word in a sentence.
