Meta is updating its policy to label a broader range of AI-generated content across Facebook, Instagram, and Threads as "Made with AI," based on the Oversight Board's feedback and an extensive policy review process involving public opinion surveys and consultations with experts.

The new approach emphasizes transparency and provides additional context rather than removing manipulated media, aiming to address the expanding variety of AI-generated content without unnecessarily restricting freedom of speech.

Starting in May 2024, Meta plans to apply "Made with AI" labels to content, and from July 2024, it will cease removing content solely based on its manipulated video policy, prioritizing labels and context to inform users while retaining content that complies with its Community Standards.

Companies like OpenAI and Meta face significant challenges in acquiring high-quality training data for AI models, leading to practices that may conflict with copyright laws, such as unauthorized transcription of YouTube videos and other copyrighted materials.

Despite potential legal issues, these companies proceed with data acquisition strategies under the belief of fair use or through loopholes in current laws, including OpenAI's use of YouTube content for training its GPT-4 model and Google's training on YouTube content within certain agreements.

Searching for Solutions: To combat the shortage of training data, firms are considering innovative solutions like generating synthetic data and curriculum learning, while also exploring legal and technical measures to protect unauthorized use of their content.

Google introduced Google Vids, an AI-powered video creation tool, at the Google Cloud Next customer conference, which will be included in the Google Workspace suite, offering users the ability to generate videos through collaboration and AI technology directly in the browser.

The tool aims to transform existing assets like marketing copy or images into compelling videos with features for editing, production, and real-time collaboration, adhering to the same level of access control and security as other Workspace tools.

This innovation is part of Spotify's broader strategy to stand out in the competitive music streaming landscape, with its ventures into audiobooks, podcasting, edtech, and now advanced AI-driven features.
