OpenAI announces GPT-4o mini, a cost-efficient model priced at 15 cents per million input tokens and 60 cents per million output tokens, significantly cheaper than previous models, with superior performance on benchmarks.

Versatile Applications: GPT-4o mini supports a broad range of tasks, including text and vision, with future support for multimedia inputs/outputs. It excels in reasoning, math, coding, and multimodal tasks, making it ideal for various applications like customer support chatbots and complex data processing.

Enhanced Safety and Accessibility: The model includes robust safety measures, utilizing new techniques to prevent misuse. Available to developers via the API, it will replace GPT-3.5 for ChatGPT Free, Plus, and Team users, making advanced AI more accessible and reliable.

Integration and Expansion: Google's AI strategy focuses on integrating AI across its products like Search, Maps, Translate, and Workspace to enhance user experiences and expanding Google Cloud's AI capabilities to support businesses and developers.

Research and Collaboration: Google invests heavily in AI research, especially in natural language processing, computer vision, and machine learning, and collaborates with partners to tackle societal challenges such as healthcare, climate change, and education.

Responsible AI Development: Google emphasizes responsible AI development, guided by its AI principles, ensuring transparency, accountability, and safety. This includes investments in AI ethics and initiatives like the AI Opportunity Fund and the AI Impact Challenge to promote social good.

Five-Level AGI Scale: OpenAI introduced a five-level classification system to measure progress towards artificial general intelligence (AGI), with current AI at level one (conversational skills) and nearing level two (human-level problem-solving).

Significance and Skepticism: Experts, like John Burden from the University of Cambridge, highlight the potential impact of reasoning AI systems but express doubts about reaching higher levels soon, suggesting the tech industry remains at level one.

Future Implications and Challenges: Achieving higher AGI levels involves more than cognitive reasoning, requiring advanced coordination and social intelligence, raising questions about the feasibility and impact on the workforce and society.

Image: Google Vids

Google introduces Vids, a new app aimed at making collaborative, shareable videos for work purposes, similar to creating slides in Google Slides but for video content like pitches, team updates, and training videos.

Vids simplifies video creation, requiring no production skills, and integrates Google's Gemini AI for tasks like building storyboards, writing scripts, and generating images. Users can collaborate in real-time, similar to other Google productivity tools.

Google Vids aims to address the growing demand for video content in remote work environments, integrating seamlessly with other Google tools but not directly with YouTube. The app will launch in public beta this summer, with early trends showing short, work-focused videos.

Microsoft's AI-powered Designer app, similar to Canva, is now available to all users on iOS, Android, and the web, supporting over 80 languages.

Features and Creation Tools: The app allows users to create various visual content like stickers, greeting cards, and avatars using text prompts. It includes "prompt templates" to inspire creativity and supports collaboration through shared templates.

Integration and Future Enhancements: Designer can edit and restyle images with AI, including transforming selfies and replacing backgrounds. Microsoft plans to integrate Designer into Word and PowerPoint via Copilot, enabling Pro users to create images and designs directly within their workflow.
